Ocean

I'm wishing for far horizons and bigger things today ... the lovely days of walking alone through an ocean of strange faces (also known as college) have begun again, and today I wish I were far away on a rocky coast, standing alone with God and His creation ... feeling the salt spray on my face and the sea wind in my hair, the coolness of the slick wet rocks under my feet; smelling the tang of the water and the warmth of the land; hearing the cries of the gulls pouring out into a vast turbulent sky ...

Behold the Sea,
The opaline, the plentiful and strong,
Yet beautiful as is the rose in June,
Fresh as the trickling rainbow of July;
Sea full of food, the nourisher of kinds,
Purger of earth, and medicine of men;
 Creating a sweet climate by thy breath,
Washing out harms and griefs from memory,
And, in thy mathematic ebb and flow,
Giving a hint of that which changes not.

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Roll on, thou deep and dark blue Ocean - roll!
Ten thousand fleets sweep over thee in vain;
Man marks the earth with ruin - his control
Stops with the shore.

~ Lord Byron

Alone I walked on the ocean strand,
 A pearly shell was in my hand;
I stooped, and wrote upon the sand
My name, the year, the day.
As onward from the sport I passed,
 One lingering look behind I cast,
A wave came rolling high and fast,
And washed my lines away.

~ Hannah Flagg Gould

The cure for anything is salt water -
sweat,
tears,
or the sea.

  3. Oh Vickie,

    I know how you feel...rest in the arms of the One who controls all the seas (college too) and know that His eye is on you.

    You'll be in my thoughts...I pray that we both can be bright lights on a hill shining for Him. College is always a place full of empty, searching hearts!

    I missed your blog while I was out of town...it is fun getting "caught up" again!

    From your fellow student,
    Frannie
