Rainboots, Aprons, Prayer, Pictures, and Josh Groban

Hi everybody! Wow, it's been a long time since I posted, hasn't it? I took a week off of blogging because I was wasting too much time on it again; and it's been a very busy, good, productive week! My post title kind of sums it all up:

***

Rainboots -  I am shopping for rainboots even though most of the Midwest, my state included, is currently in the middle of a drought. Ahem. But the Farmer's Almanac says that the Midwest should get some rain in July.  :-)  Uh-huh, totally random.

Aprons - I am currently trying to find a nicer "style" of clothes, makeup, and hair. Right now, my style can be summed up in the outfit I wore most of this morning: my Star Trek T-shirt, a neat denim skirt, and a faded old apron tied primly over the top. Clumsily feminine.

No clue who this is, but she's a
good example of a "Soft Summer"
So I've been reading a lot about the Color Me Beautiful system from the 1980's, which was a method of using your natural skin, hair, and eye coloring to determine which colors look best on you. Different colorings are categorized according to the four seasons they resemble. I'm a "Soft Summer," which means I have light, neutral coloring and I look best in cool, feminine pastels - lavender, rose pink, soft mauve, and light blue, for example. This is tough because I mostly buy clothes that are either bright and fun, or neat and black; and of course, feminine colors need feminine styles, since you can't just buy a bunch of T-shirts in each color. I will definitely be blogging about this some more as I continue to work out my wardrobe.

Prayer - Another thing that I started last week was beginning each morning with a time of prayer. My devotions are in the evening, so I somehow thought I didn't need to do anything in the morning; but since I began starting my day with 10 or 15 minutes of prayer, I've noticed a difference in my ability to bring frustrations and questions to the Lord during the day - because I open my heart and ask Him to be present in my day, I am listening to what He will say to me, not just rushing around doing my own thing. It's been a huge blessing - I would really appreciate your prayers and encouragement that I would make this a habit!

Pictures - I have discovered a wonderful free online photo editing website called Pixlr.com, and I am quite enamored with it. It lets me do stuff like this with a few clicks of a mouse:

Remember my hairstyle picture from the other day? This is the same one, edited ... awesome!!

Josh Groban - Yes, I know that this is the part of the post you really wanted to read about! Sadly, no, I have not met Josh Groban or gotten his autograph, and I am not going to see him or hear him any time soon. Waah. But I am very excited because I'm playing in a band on campus this summer, and we are playing his arrangement of "You Raise Me Up"; and I get to play the solo!! Whoopee!!! Do you think if I sent him a recording, he would send me back an autograph?  :-}

*Whew,* that's a lot of updating!! As you can probably tell, I'm VERY glad to be back at blogging, and I'm going to try not to abuse the privilege so I can avoid any more compulsory blog hiatuses in the future.  :-P

Now I'd better go to bed, since it's almost 1AM again ... I can't wait to catch up with you all! Have a wonderful evening middle of the night, my friends!!

Lots of love,
Vicki

  2. Oh, those rainboots look LOVELY...I suddenly want a pair to go dancing in the rain with, aprons...mine are all plain and boring...and those colors sound lovely. I am an Autumn (at least that is what someone told me once)...who doesn't always abide my the rules. And to be honest I thought buying t-shirts would be the quickest way to change but you are dreadfully correct...it wouldn't make thinks more feminine, at all.

Hmmm you should send him a recording with a pretty please note...and maybe even an already postaged envelope - how can he resist that? It's all there waiting for him to send back to you...all it needs is his signature... :) Tell us how it turns out!

  3. Every time I think I'm going to blog I start doing something else... but catching up on other people's blogging is fun too. :) Ooh, I want rain boots... It's actually been flooding by me, and those are really cute! :D

I always forget what season I am... though now that I think about it, I seem to remember it being Autumn - tans/browns/golds/oranges usually look good on me. All the colors I hated as a child! LOL My mom wears pretty much all black, so even though I look not the best in black (I know I'm not a Winter), I still find myself wearing it... and I adore red, even though it really doesn't look good on me either. :P But that is funny that you are working on your wardrobe... I have been kind of thinking along those lines too, and trying NOT to go for the completely insane look when I get dressed... though I don't want to give up my gypsy headscarves... surely when I'm home I can wear completely random things? LOL Going places I usually dress up... at home... haha. XD

And band sounds so fun! That would be totally cool if you did send it to him... :)
