Sunday Check-In

Another Sunday not in church ...  *sigh*. I have such emotional conflict when it comes to church. Part of me knows I need to be in church, and misses the deep fellowship that I had at the conservative Baptist church. The other part of me avoids the question because I so badly dread the "church-hunting" cycle ... poring over websites and statements of faith, creeping shyly into the back of the sanctuary and trying to avoid as many of the "who are you and why are you here?" questions as possible, squirming uncomfortably through blistering rock music and sermons that are either wimpy and watered-down or doctrinally weird, painting on overly perky smiles while meeting well-meaning old people during the after-service and telling my life's story a hundred times, and slipping back out as soon as possible to collapse gratefully in Dad's truck.  *Sigh*.  I know that's a very limited and self-pitying way to view it, but it's the truth. Finding a church is difficult. Much as I've tried to redefine myself after leaving the conservative Baptist church, if there were a way for me to start going there again regularly, I probably would, just because it seems to have spoiled me for everywhere else.  :-P

Anyway, I slept waaaaaay in this morning, due to suffering through watching Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones with John and Heather until 3AM; I came downstairs just before noon, and spent a relaxing "morning" with my sibs while my parents ran errands. The afternoon kind of disappeared between reading a blog and staring dully at browsing Pinterest ... I used a burst of energy to clean the bedroom while singing Fernando Ortega songs at the top of my lungs; and tonight I'm going to repot some cacti.  :-)

Tonight is also one of my favorite nights of the week - 60's spy show night on MeTV! My favorites are "Get Smart" and "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.", but I also love "Columbo" and am trying to get into "Mission: Impossible". Do you have a MeTV station in your area? Do you have a favorite weekly show that you look forward to?

I've had an EXTREMELY busy first month at my full-time job! My current position is basically an assistant to the director, which means that I deal with handling scheduling and cancellations, taking notes at meetings, meeting short deadlines, and helping undergraduate students (who were my equals just a short month ago) coming to me with questions and needs. Quite an adjustment from my peaceful undergrad job making phone calls. Adjusting, I will admit, has been difficult. I've spent a lot of evenings slumped on the couch staring at a screen in utter braindead exhaustion.

I'm optimistic, though, that things will be getting better starting this week. For one thing, I've been sketching out my decorating ideas for my very own cubicle:

Here are a few of my color and decorating inspirations ... you can see more on my Office Decor board on my Pinterest page:

1. Bunting!! | 2. Color palette | 3. Poster to go behind my computer monitor

John Wayne mousepad. Oh, yes.

It's been so much fun to make and buy things for my very own little space! Tonight I will be transplanting my little cacti from their individual pots into a pretty bowl I bought for them, and adding the little bunting ... tomorrow I'm going to order my nature poster to go behind my computer monitor and give me something restful to look at and some Bible verse cards to put up above and give me encouragement if I'm feeling overwhelmed or impatient. I'd also like to hunt up some fabric flowers to put in an old pop bottle that John gave me for just such a purpose.

***

It's later now; John and Heather and I are eating snacks, doing crafts, writing emails, and watching The Magnificent Seven. (It's MUCH better than Star Wars II.)

I've been taking some pictures as I made the little bunting to go with my cacti, which I also repotted before starting the movie, so I'll post those in my check-in tomorrow!  :-)  Have a wonderful evening, my sisters!

Hugs and love,
Vicki

  1. I know how hard it is to go through the "church hunting cycle". My family had to go through that several years ago, and well, it was not the easiest time for us. But GOD led us where HE wanted us, in the right timing. I pray HE does the same for you. :)

I pray the adjustment with your job goes smoothly. I know that decorating your own little space will be a source of joy and fun. I look forward to seeing the decorations you have been working on! :D

Have a wonderful day, my friend!

    Love In Christ,
    Angel

  2. Hello, sweet lady, I'm rereading your thoughts and discovered I hadn't commented yet ... I thought I had but I guess it was one of those moments when you think before you do and then think you did because the thought was so real ... :)

I just wish I could hug you. I know can really relate. Dalton and I are still church hunting but sometimes it just feels easier to stay home and watch a sermon every Sunday. We have a hard time not being in a church where meat is being preached. But lie Dalton just said the other day, fellowship and community and obedience is important. another problem is that with Dalton's work schedule we have to leave Sunday morning service in order to be home in time for him to eat, dress and leave for work. So we plan to make Sunday school and Wednesday evening more of a priority ... that way we can become more involved and meet fellow believers.

Like Angel, I pray that I His timing you find a place. I know that He will and I thank Him for it now.

Also, I hope we can see pictures of your workplace -- I love the color scheme you have picked out!!!

I am so thankful for you!
    Love and blessings!

  3. YES to the John Wayne mouse pad. Yes, yes, yes.

It's so good to read about how you're doing! Congrats on the job (and prayers for the exhaustion--I know you do a great job!). The decoration of the cubicle = thumbs up. As an artistically impaired person, I appreciate the awesome sketch.

Prayers, too, for the church hunting! I know first-hand how that can be. :( But I know God has just the place that He wants you, and that you will find it in His time!

Thanks for the comments on my blog--gave me the warm fuzzies to be remembered by a friend in the blogosphere. ^_^ I'm hoping to jump back into blogging soon--whether on my old blog or possibly a new space (still thinking about that one).

    Love and hugs!
    Erin
